Which sleeve actually fits your machine

Laptop compartments are quoted by screen size, but the number that matters is the interior panel. The Ambassador's padded compartment measures 11.8 inches wide by 15 inches deep — enough for a 15.6-inch consumer laptop, and comfortable for a 14-inch machine in a protective sleeve. The Nova carries a separate laptop pocket inside an 18-litre main compartment that opens wide on a single zip, so the machine goes in last and comes out first. The Boundless takes a different approach: its compartment opens 90 to 180 degrees to lie flat on the scanner belt, which is the detail that matters if you fly often.

Canvas or technical

Two of these three are cotton canvas. The Ambassador is stone-washed canvas with full-grain crazy horse leather trim that scratches by design and turns glossier with use; it weighs 2.5 lbs and holds 13.6 litres. The Nova is high-density cotton canvas with a garment wash, 2 lbs, 18 litres, with two open side pockets and a rear zip pocket for valuables.

The Boundless is not canvas at all — it is 1260D polyester with a laminated coating at the zippers and base. We are explicit about that because the rest of the range is cotton, and if you came here for canvas specifically, the Ambassador and the Nova are the two to compare. If you came here for a laptop backpack that survives airport security and wet platforms, the Boundless is the one built for it.

Weight, and what you give up

All three sit between 2 and 2.5 lbs empty. That is heavier than a nylon commuter pack, and it is the trade we make deliberately: thick fabric, reinforced stitching at the strap anchors, and metal hardware instead of plastic clips. A pack that survives eight years of daily loading is not the lightest pack on the shelf.
