Google API Integrations at Gootium
This page describes the internal software that Gootium operates against Google APIs. It exists so that anyone reviewing our Google Cloud project, including Google's own verification process, can see exactly what our application does and why it requests access to Google user data. No login is required to read anything on this page.
What the application is
Gootium is a direct-to-consumer brand that designs and sells canvas bags and backpacks through gootium.com. To run the marketing side of that business we maintain a small set of internal reporting scripts, written in Node.js, that run on computers belonging to our own staff. The application has no public interface, no hosted server and no user accounts. It is a command-line tool used by our two-person in-house marketing team and by nobody else.
What it does
- Search performance reporting. It reads our own Google Search Console data for gootium.com so we can see which search queries bring visitors to our website, and how those queries perform over time.
- Website analytics reporting. It reads our own Google Analytics 4 property so we can measure how visitors move through our online store.
- Advertising performance reporting. It reads our own Google Ads account so we can see the cost, clicks, conversions and impression share of the advertising we pay for, and judge whether that spending is profitable.
- Advertising adjustments. Based on the reporting above, the application may adjust the daily budget and the keyword bids of advertising campaigns inside the single Google Ads account we own.
Why it requests access to Google user data
Each of the three data sources above is our own business data, held in Google products under accounts that belong to Gootium. The application requests access purely so that this data can be read into one internal report instead of being exported by hand from three separate web interfaces. It requests read-only access to Search Console and Analytics, and read and write access to Google Ads because adjusting our own advertising budgets requires it.
The application does not access data belonging to any other person or company. It does not sign in on behalf of customers, it does not read anyone's email, and it does not collect personal information from visitors to this website.
Who operates it
The application is built and operated by Gootium for Gootium's own use. It is not offered to clients, not sold or distributed to third parties, and not embedded in any product or service. It is not available to anyone outside our company.
